Adam and I had an interesting talk on this subject and I'd like to throw it out there to you guys.

I've been going to shows since I was 14. I know whats its like to read Hit Parade magazine and pine for the next album to come out, plan weeks ahead for when the album was releasing how was i going to get the money and get to Tower Records to get it!. I remember waiting in line for hours for the store to open and for them to open the seals on the boxes and start handing them out. making friends in line and plans for the up coming tour. How many nights were we going?..Getting the album home and spending forever looking it over and over and over finally gettin it on the turn table and that first play!! you closed your eyes and were wisked away into music you have been dreaming of for months...

now you download, if you love two songs cool if not unload and move on..the end

WTF is wrong with fans anymore and am I that old!!!!!?
Why do people sit at rock concerts?
I have loads of questions for the changes to my music experience and I'm not happy about most of these changes.

YEAH!!! Great rant!!!
Music has become yet another disposable commodity. Why do people sit at concerts? Because they're boring old cunts!!! No doubt I'll have to sit through Meatloaf in April (Like I did last time)... Will answer more later!

And more....

To your first point.

As I stated music is now another disposable commodity that is very cheap to get hold of (a good few songs on my iPod are youtube mp3 conversions) these days.

Back in the day you'd save up for ages to get that new record & as you say just stare at it for ages before even playing it. Then you'd be reading the cover whilst listening. Don't get that with an MP3! I have many fond memories of saving up to get enough cash ready to go order one of the Kiss back catalogue from the local independent record store. These days are gone.

I order from Play.com/Amazon & until recently HMV.com as it's easier and the products are cheaper online (something that fkt HMV IMO). The exception here being the last two Kiss albums where I've made the effort to get to an independent store & purchase it (often at a higher price than online). I miss those days but as my time is taken up with other things it is easier to order online...

Concerts: Seeing as it costs as much to go see your favourite band today as it does to go on holiday to Spain for a week, people want to savour the event I guess & that's why they sit???

I find it incredibly frustrating & try not to sit at shows (unless with Ruth). Adam has stated elsewhere about rather seeing shows in smaller venues than 'enormo domes'. I agree. Whilst I enjoy an arena show, some of my favourite ever shows have been in 'dives'. Twisted Sister at the Astoria in 2004 or Mcr Academy in 2006 stand out here.

I really regret missing both Kiss club shows as I doubt they'll do one here again...if they do I'll make the effort to attend this time! I guess times have changed and we're just older now & have memories of how things were...

To the point you made about Meatloaf that you would be sitting. I think that is how music is being seen these days. People aren't going because they want to be part of te show and they love the band. People are going to just watch and its something to do..

We (Ruth, myself & my sister inlaw) saw Meatloaf in 2010. We had seats. EVERYONE sat until he came back on stage & did Bat out of Hell as the encore. Then the place erupted & everyone was on their feet. As soon as that song was over everyone (bar me & a few others) sat down. All through the show Ruth could see how frustrated I was getting at having to sit down. It's fucking rock concert...STAND THE FUCK UP!!!!!

In answer to the question of the thread........................we get older and really can't be arsed paying to be shoved around, getting glimpses of the band from behind the big bastard who ALWAYS has to stand in front of you and getting a wet leg because SOMEONE is to lazy to find the loos.
I stopped enjoying going down the front when I cracked my ribs at the Slipknot Brixton gig.
