So, I finally got the '74 LP cherry burst Custom back from Bill ( full refret and cracked frethead repair) at the Guitar Factory in College Park/ Orlando, and I'm taking special moments to kiss myself very sweetly. It's a magnificently visualized, wonderfully esigned/ constructed, and COMPLETELY RENOVATED instrument sent from player heaven, if I say so myself!!! For those of you who don't recall, I've replaced the wiring, the pickups, the pickup selector switch, pickup position indicator, the pots, the pickguard, pickguard bracket, all the screws, the strap handles, input jack, tuners, volume/ tone knobs, the bridge, tailpiece, and frets. Essentially and realistically everything but the wood. And, that's been improved!!!
When I went to pick 'er up, I carried my '83 Explorer along just to see if ( on a very, very outside chance) he might have a couple of these super crazy screws ( he called them "tri-points" {??!}) that were installed in the saddles of the original bridge, and to have the original Gibson Dirty Fingers humbucker re-installed into the bridge position. I was totally like wacked out for like twenty minutes, after he actually found a couple of those super screwy screws, man! Anyway, I honestly haven't been able to use the original bridge for over twenty years, because I lost two of the screws, and it's a thoroughly worthy piece of guitar hardware in that it's brass plated. This is the difference in the sound. BIIING Now, I doubt you're goin' to find that these days! You know.
He checked out the pickup with a voltmeter, every way you could possibly imagine, and it had since died!!! Broken wire. I'm not going to lie. That hurt a little. So, he suggested I send it to "Lindy" for a rewind, and here he is demonstrating a couple of his very, very, very good sounding handmade pickups. I might have to buy some pickups from Virginia.
