Whilst watching Back to the Future last night on TV it struck me how good it was and that although I enjoyed the sequels they weren't as good as the original.
Pirates of the Caribbean is another film that didn't need any sequels. How about you guys?

Considering the subject of the thread, this was absolutely the first movie to come to mind. This was bad, and I do mean bad! My mind's admittedly shocking, blistering fast association and response for Films That Didn't Need Sequels was immediately followed by uncertainty that a sequel was ever made, as this was such a terrible movie. Can you imagine the horror I solemnly endured while Youtubin' the vid, and was so violently thrust upon by the knowledge that not only one, but, TWO sequels were made?!!

POLICE ACADEMY!
I like the first film but the rest...
Actually, thinking about it, almost every film made in the 80's did not need a sequel! Beverley Hills Cop, 48Hours, in fact most of those films didn't even need the first film to be made!!!!!

Agree with RFFB about Jaws, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Planet of the Apes, any Hugh Grant film as they all seem like a sequel to the last one.

great list and I agree about Raiders. Love all the films but Raiders is the best one. Jaws is a great call, especially considering how shite they went!

Really? I can see your point but surely Empire is a classic sequel that is richly deserved & rewarding? Jedi on the other hand....(don't get me started on the prequels!)
