AC/DC - Bon or Brian

Subject: AC/DC - Bon or Brian Thu Jan 29, 2009 4:47 am

Simple question.

AC/DC have had two great singers with completely different styles.

Who do you prefer though?

The straight ahead bad boy boogie of the late great Ronald 'Bon' Scott.

Or the heavy metla stylings of Brian 'Beano' Johnson??

I'm in the Bon camp but do love some of Brians stuff .

BON!!! He was truely unique and also was part of some classic albums that have stood up well in the passing of time. 'Highway To Hell', 'Powerage' & 'Dirty Deeds...' are proper rock albums. He had a lyrical style that was about as original as you can get!

Brian has only really been part of one truely classic album...'Back In Black'. Everything since just hasn't grabbed me. Some great songs but not any complete albums. And if you believe all the rumours, most of the lyrics on BIB were Bons anyway! You can certainly hear his style of writing. True, who knows? AC/DC have always denied it...but I wonder.

Respect to Brian though he's recorded some fine rock with the boys.."Back in black" & "For those about to rock" in particularly..

I just prefer Bon's character & vocals........

Johnson.
Manly because he's been fronting them during the entire time that Upscope has been involved w/ them. Never saw Bon. Never got a chance to relate to him. Only heard him on the albums. Both have been great for AC/DC though.

I can see your point but for me every Bon record is great. Not a single duff track on any off them. With Brian you've got Black in Black and then every album after that has some filler tracks.

However whether they would've become so big if Bon hadn't passed is one of lifes unanswered mysteries.

I'm lucky to have seen both. Both great singers and characters but for sentimental reasons I went for Bon.

Unfortunately I never got to see AD/DC with Bon...they always played an over 18 club in Newcastle and they wouldn't let me in... Crying or Very sad

First saw them on the BIB tour and wouldn't say they were the best band I'd ever seen live! Bon Just had more character about him. And his albums with AC/DC are more consistently great. Brians are hit n miss affairs.

Back in the late 70's no-one needed ID!! There was no photo's on your drivers licence, didn't need them to get served in the pub...nothing! But I was unlucky to get a 'jobs-worth' bouncer on the door. A few months later got in no problem. Such is life... Rolling Eyes

I saw an AC/DC tribute band on Saturday night that featured two singers doing Bon & Brian tracks...

When "Brian" came on stage you could instantly hear the difference in the band going from a hard rockin' bluesy type band to a heavy metal band. Confirmed to me that Bon is the man.
