Can you believe it has been 30 !! years since the release of British Steel. To me Judas Priest has always been one of the starters of Heavy metal music. They were to me...I saw them live in 1983 at the US festival and I have never been the same....Classic music with such a great drive...
I just saw an interview with Rob Halford and it was so cool to see him win the Golden God award. Even cooler to see Ozzy present it to him..Rob's dream he said is to have Priest and Sabbath on the same bill one last time.... That would be a show....
So in honor of This great musician and the band itself....Please post your favorite priest things and memories.... I will be posting more later...but wanted to get this rolling!!!

Judas Priest...used to love this band until they became a cliche. But they have done some of fav gigs ever. Concert venues in the UK were not like in the USA until 15 years ago, or so. Most of the evnues here were City Halls or Odeons with a capacity of 2000-4500. Not arenas or anything of that size. And Priest put on what was pretty much the best show I ever saw in one of these type of venues back in 82 on the Point Of Entry tour. They crammed that stage with so much gear they themseleves barely had any room to move in!!! They rose up at the back of the stage on elevators, had stairways, a massive drum riser and a fantastic light show. When other bands were saying the venues were just too small, Priest showed them wrong! And when they played Desert Plains!!!! Fuck me I love that song! Priest have done some of my fav albums also...Sin After Sin & Stained Class are pure brilliance and Screaming For Vengeance ain't that bad either!!!
First saw Priest in 78 and they blew me away. I think the following year they could have been the first band I saw 2 nights in row at the Newcastle City Hall. Saw them last at the City Hall on the Defenders Of The Faith tour and it wasn't the same. didn't see them again until the KISS Download show in 08 and it pains me to say they were awful. A real parody of themselves. Every 'metal' cliche in the book. But they did play Dissident Aggressor and that was class!
Strangely I never really rated British Steel as one of their best...but I seem to be in the minority!!!!!!
I fuckin love this song!!!!!!!

Believe it or not Priest have never been one of my favourites, there were so many others around at the time, they sort of passed me by. Having said that Priest/Iron Maiden at the Rainbow in 1979 remains one of my top 10 ( non KISS ) gigs. Like RFFB, I find them a little cliched and the last time I saw them, and it will be the last, they were completely blown off stage by The Scorpions. This may be controversial, but I think it was a mistake getting Halford back. I am probably the only person in the world who thought Tim " Ripper " Owens had a stronger ( younger ?) voice and brought a bit of umph to the band. And having gone back and revisted British Steel I find it really dated and, dare I say, weak !! Sorry Priest fans !!

I enjoy a little bit of Priest now & then.
Like Maiden I appreciate what they did for the UK metal scene, just not massive faves of mine...

Now, then . . . This is what it's really all about! British Steel was recorded in a house in the Bahamas, which Ringo Star owned, at the time. If you listen closely to the outro, you ought to sense the heavily compressed sound of the provided flatware being rattled by singer Rob Halford, to mimic the sound of Metal Gods marching! Vocals in the foyer closet, guitar amps in the tiled den, Metal Gods in the Kitchen, and drums in the garage! Now, that's what I call recording!
