| I'm not sure if world news has covered this but we have something very interesting going on here in the U.S. Beebe, Ark. — — Wildlife officials are trying to determine what caused more than 1,000 blackbirds to die and fall from the sky over an Arkansas town. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said it began receiving reports on the dead birds about 11:30 p.m. Friday night. The birds fell over a 1-mile area in Beebe, northeast of Little Rock in central Arkansas. An aerial survey indicated that no other dead birds were found outside the area. State ornithologist Karen Rowe said the birds showed physical trauma, and she speculated that "the flock could have been hit by lightning or high-altitude hail." The commission said that New Year's Eve revelers shooting off fireworks in the area could have startled the birds from their roost and caused them to die from stress. Robby King, a wildlife officer for the agency, collected about 65 dead birds, which will be sent for testing at the state Livestock and Poultry Commission lab and the National Wildlife Health Center lab in Wisconsin. Rowe said similar events had occurred elsewhere and that test results "usually were inconclusive." She said she doubted the birds were poisoned. textSize() and then this......Separately, some 100,000 fish died last week in the Arkansas River in the northwestern section of the state, the New York Daily News reports. The drum fish were discovered Thursday across more than 20 miles of the river, fish and game officials announced Sunday. There a lot of theories as to why this is happening...Was wondering if you had any thought on it... | |

| Maybe a DISEASE??? This is upsetting. I feed the birds, squirrels, rabbits, every single morning. Keep us posted. The lab results shouldn't take too long to determine. | |

| There were bird droppings (sic) reported in Oklahoma, next to Ark, also. Haven't been able to reach my brother-in-law ( MA/ Biology) for his input, yet. He works with the Ark. Natural Heritage Commision, and they work very closely with "Fish and Game."
I think the birds and fish have been smoking pot, out there. Everyone else does. | |

| Have they shot fireworks off before? Are there the same bird in other cities/states that have shot fireworks off? Too easy to blame fireworks, I think something else is at work, but don't know what? | |
