Just how far can Hard Rock & Heavy Metal be took? - Where do you see this music in 20 years? - Will anybody still care? - Will there be any Riffs left? Rolling Eyes cheesin'

Music has evolved, mixing styles & sounds & so on, but has this particular movement peaked?...How much further can Rock go?.. We've gone from the classic rock sound that Hendrix gave us, made it heavier with bands such as Sabbath, Priest, & Maiden - then Thrash Metal took hold, & from there on in..wot?? -Speed metal, Black Metal, Death Metal, Doom Metal, Rap Metal, Industrial Metal, Metalcore, Nu Metal...The list goes on, its crazy!!!.. this ones a good one - as officially listed on Wikipedia "Symphonic Metal"....errr, can anyone tell me what the fuck that is?? scratch Sleep

My point is, surely we have took Metal music as far as we can, can it get any heavier, faster or slower?..I think its reached its pinnacle, & did a long time ago...That probably goes for music in general..

Can this music "still" go to places we haven't heard yet?

Whats your take, all opinions welcome....

cheers

Matty.. peace

No I can't imagine how much longer this Metal Genre list will be in 20 years. scratch No matter what I will still be listening to my old albums. Although, I do quite enjoy going to Oz Fest, and hearing newer bands I might have over looked. Twisted Evil

I wonder if kids will still be allowed to have mosh pits in the future? Evil or Very Mad

To me Metal has never been in a better state than it is now. The trouble is that people are lazy and don't look further than their nose for their music ! They get stuck in a rut buying the same old bands and genres that they're used to.
It may sound like I'm blowing my own trumpet here but I have always been open as to what I listen to. My album collection is, i think, pretty eclectic. But my main interest is Heavy Rock/ Metal ( all the sub genres to me are meaningless, IT'S ALL ROCK !)
and I'm always looking for new bands to listen to. Unlike most people who keep their eyes firmly across the Atlantic (I'm in England by the way) for the next " Big Thing" I tend to turn towards Europe for inspiration, Rammstein, Nightwish, Firewind being among my favourites. I just had a look at my CDs and jotted down a few names, some you might know others you wont. O.K. here goes bear with me.....
Alestorm,Axxis,Astral Doors,Avantasia,Blind Guardian,Brother Firetribe,Brainstorm,Civilization one, Cellador,Cans,Dominici,Dragonforce,Dream evil,Dark moor,Dragonland,Evergrey,Emigrate,Engel,Elvinking,Edguy,Freedom Call,Firewind,Fairyland,Freak Kitchen,Gotthard,Hammerfall,Hanzel und Gretyl,Grand Magnus,Human Fortress,Ivory Tower,Intense,In Flames,Iced Earth,Iron Fire, Iron Mask,Kamelot,Kiuas,Pagans Mind, Primal Fear,Powerwolf,Rhapsody,Serenity,Turisas,Therion,Tarot,Vintersorg.
That's just a fraction of the bands that I like, I could've gone on but I got bored as I expect you would ! All of the above make quality albums that are missed because they have to be looked for. There is a magazine that I buy religiously " Powerplay"( I call it my Bible) that gives all the information you need to find what's going on in the wide world of Rock and Metal.
To end (thank God you say!) Metal is very much alive and well and has a long and healthy future.
The music is out there ! Just get off you butt and find It ! Very Happy Cool

Good point Roger. Looking towards the future instead of only living in the present is pretty lazy.
I think there are enough peoples who really enjoy and look forward to new music and I think the laziness can also come from the artists themselves. They need to progress and grow and change and their fans should try to enbrace that change and move forward with them. Funny Metal has such an impact that even something from 10 to 20 years ago is still a thrill to listen too, thats the kind of music I like. Can I go out on a limb and say that is one of the sucesses of Kiss is their ability to try different things. I know they get a lot of flack for some of the directions they take but ultimitly they take them.

Motley Crue is one who I see around for a while, they really change it up too. I am not familar with across the pond artists so I'm wondering whom do you see over here in the US as a foward progressing band?

Quote :
An astonishing find deep in the Amazon Rainforest might have us all rethinking how old heavy metal really is.

A team of explorers from Ecuador have come across a hidden tribe in the area, who call themselves the Metaaal. Although details are currently difficult to confirm, it seems this tribe go back thousands of years, and worship what they call the Lemuel. Moreover, they’ve shown the explorers etchings of symbols on cave walls which have been dated as at least 2000 years old.

Expert translators have been able to decipher some of these symbols, to reveal lyrics to a song called Explode The Implode. Here’s the first verse:

When the fires are lit

And the noise goes crash

It’s time to let loose the tribe

For a metaaal mentaaal bash

We have to stress this is only a very loose translation.

It’s hoped that a recording of the Metaaal performing this song in its entirety will be made shortly, and then released on an album of local sounds

I dunno, I am not into the stuff that spun off from Heavy Metal, ie death, speed, etc. I do like a lot of today's bands, but don't know if they would be called metal or emo, or ???? Basically if I like it then I will listen to it. There is a lot of the screamo stuff that has good hooks, etc but I don't like the screamy singing.

What does the future hold for Matal? Colleagues, friends, dudettes, I have waited patiently to see if anything would ever realistically become of this U.S. Navy tangent . And now, ( hold onto what you got) I reveal the future of Metal.
